i hope all of you and your furry babies are doing great.
so, what's with the title? well.. going under the knife simply means going for surgery. no... i'm not talking about vanity plastic surgery kinda surgery... lol~!
but i'm more focused to surgeries for our furry babies. what surgery?? well, there are tons of surgeries that are available for your furry babies.. but i am going to touch on one particular surgery, that is neutering/ spaying.
i really feel that there is a need to make sure that all your furry babies are all neutered/spayed. some feel that we are being cruel for suppressing their natural needs and desire to procreate (produce offspring).. but at this age, i really do feel that owners should consider to spay their cats/dogs/ferrets/ any furry babies in general. if you can afford to take care of your pets' offspring, by all means go ahead, keep them un-spayed.
my reason for writing this post is to do my part as a caring furry parent to advocate to other pet owners /furry parents to spay their pets, and to stop being irresponsible. having a pet is a big responsibility. you don't just provide food, shelter for them.. but you are responsible for their well being too!
why you need to spay you pets??
- to curb over population of animals.
- prevent & curb dumping of animals at the shelter or homes.
- to prevent tragic euthanasia of innocent animals at shelters.

i would like to point out 2 sides of having your cats/furry babies spayed. both positive and negative.
Positive
- will help control over population. if you spay a cat, you will prevent 370,000 (or more) unwanted kittens in 7 years!
- prevent or lowering the risk of FIV . because the desire to mate is no longer exist. FIV stands for Felineimmunodeficiency virus (FIV). it's a feline AIDS disease. my cat Upin died from FIV because his mother, Mama J was a stray cat probably contracted FIV from an infected cat. so be careful fellow furry parents...
- prevent unwanted pregnancies. animals don't have a brain to distinguish right from wrong. also they can't prevent themselves from being pregnant. so, human intervention is crucial.
- prevent excessive hormonal raging (especially male cats). my cat, Bonnie went MIA till now (it's been 1 year+)because he didn't get spayed in time. when they are in heat, they will go missing looking for mating partner(s), they will be involve in cat fights.
- prevent big scale euthanasia at shelter due to over capacity in the premise.
- prevention of pyometra and ovarian cancers.
- prevent & curb dumping of animals at the shelter or homes. its down right rude when you drop off animals (esp when u decided not to care for your pet anymore) at thedoorstep of shelters, vet clinics, and homes. people always dump their cat at my house thinking mt family won't have any problem looking after extra 1 or few more cats.. i hate that when it happens! :(
Negative
- increases the risk of obesity
- cats become inactive
Do read & refer from trusted sources to expand your knowledge on the advantages & disadvantages of spaying/neutering your pets. i hope by me sharing my opinions and experience, it will enable you to somehow decide whether or not to spay your furry babies.
It is in my opinion that you should spay your pets. there are more advantages than disadvantages when it comes to spaying. please help to curb the dilemma of overpopulation of domestic animals esp cats and dogs. we should do our part in order to ensure this mission is a successful one.
